Special Requirements

In-Service Training

All home health aides employed by home health agencies and nurse registries must complete an HIV/AIDS training course. They also are required to obtain and maintain a current certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Home health aides employed by Medicare and Medicaid home health agencies are required to have a total of 12 hours of in-service training during each 12-month period (this can be a calendar year or based on the date of hire).  The HIV/AIDS training and CPR training may be counted toward meeting the 12 hours of in-service training.

For those advanced registered nurse practitioners certified under s. 464.012:

AUTONOMOUS PRACTICE


Rule 64B9-4.020(4), FAC, requires that registered Autonomous APRNs complete 10 additional hours of approved courses at the graduate level (Nurse Practitioner or continuing medical education).

These hours must be completed each renewal, in addition to completing the regular contact hours of CE already in place, even if the APRN is exempt from existing CE requirements due to his or her national certification.

Respiratory Therapists and Practitioners are required to earn 24 hours of continuing education biennially

Special Requirements

Renewal CE Requirements:
Twenty (20) credit hours in the general subject area
Two (2) credit hours on Florida laws and rules
Two (2)-hours board-approved course relating to the prevention of medical errors
One (1) hour on Human Trafficking. The course may be included in the total general hours required and must be completed by January 1, 2021. Required in accordance with Section 456.0341, Florida Statutes.

First renewal: RTs renewing a license for the first time and were licensed in the second half of the biennium (on or after 6/1) are exempt from the 24 hours of continuing education.  However, you are required to complete 7 hours which should consist of:
2 hours in prevention of medical errors
2 hours on FL Respiratory laws and rules
3 hours on HIV/AIDS for initial renewal; optional for subsequent renewals

As of August 3, 2016, home study/online courses are no longer limited to 12 hours for renewal. This means that Florida respiratory care practitioners can now complete all of their CE via self-study methods.
